Secrets of Effective Prioritization

Secrets of Effective Prioritization

You probably have too much to do. Despite that, your friends, family, and co-workers still ask you to do more. Although you spend your day conquering your list of things to do, you find yourself struggling to make time for the projects that matter the most to you. In this course, Samantha Bennett — best-selling author, successful entrepreneur, and expert in creativity and productivity — shows you how to make that time by learning the secrets of effective prioritization. Sam walks you through how to figure out what's really an emergency and what can wait. She emphasizes concrete ways to put yourself first, including how to say that terrible, essential word, "No." By the end of this course, you will understand how to protect your most important tasks and avoid getting overwhelmed.

This course was created by Madecraft. We are pleased to host this training in our library.

Learning Objectives

  • Define and apply the concept of prioritizing tasks and activities to manage daily responsibilities and long-term projects efficiently.
  • Analyze different situations to categorize them into urgent, important, not urgent, and not important, using the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize effectively.
  • Develop and execute a personal time management strategy that balances income-producing and joy-producing activities according to individual values and goals.
Identify and mitigate the impact of "time boulders" in personal and professional life to maintain progress towards important goals.
  • Employ a system to politely decline requests that do not align with personal priorities, ensuring control over one's time and energy.
  • Use a prioritization system to evaluate ideas or projects across multiple criteria, including impact, confidence, ease of execution, revenue, and joy, to make informed decisions on what to tackle next.
  • Summarize personal and professional tasks using a simple scale of importance, urgency, and prioritization, to collaborate on priority settings with others effectively.
  • Create a structured plan to engage in activities or projects for at least 15 minutes daily that align closely with personal passions and long-term aspirations.
  • Explain the significance of assessing time and financial expenditures as reflections of personal values, making conscious decisions to realign them as needed.
  • Develop the ability to recognize early signs of potential problems or opportunities (intuition, invitation, toleration) and take proactive steps to address or embrace them before they escalate into emergencies.
