"Succession" is a comedy-drama television series created by Jesse Armstrong. The series centers on the Roy family, the owners of global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, and their fight for control of the company amidst uncertainty about the health of the family's patriarch.
Among the cast are Brian Cox as patriarch Logan Roy, Jeremy Strong as Kendall, Kieran Culkin as Roman, and Sarah Snook as Siobhan ("Shiv"), Logan's children employed by the company. "Succession" received widespread critical acclaim across all 4 seasons for its writing, acting, musical score, directing, production values, and examination of its subject matter, with several critics labelling it as one of the best television series of all time. The series has received several awards and nominations, including 2 wins for both the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2020 and 2022.
Both Cox and Strong received the Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series Drama and Snook the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film, with Strong and Macfadyen receiving Primetime Emmy Awards for their performances – in addition to Armstrong's 3 wins for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Shefik appears as a Protest Attendee in Season 4, Episode 9 of "Succession". The episode, titled "Church and State", is the 9th and penultimate episode of the 4th season. It was written by series creator Jesse Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod, and aired on May 21, 2023 on HBO, later streaming on HBO Max. Warner Bros. Discovery went on with a revamp of HBO Max on May 23, 2023, shortening the service's name to Max.
The episode covers the funeral of Logan Roy — taking place amidst protests against the election of Jeryd Mencken — where Kendall and Shiv attempt to secure their positions while Roman struggles with grief for his father.
In the episode, as the family girds themselves for an emotional funeral, Kendall finds himself at odds with Rava and inopportune news from Jess. Later, Shiv tries to reposition herself within a new political landscape, as Kendall rallies supporters to his side.
