Michael Muenchow is a Mexican-American performer born in San Antonio, Texas, where his passion for the arts quickly moved him to get involved in singing, acting, and dance classes.
Muenchow was cast on International Television's talent-based reality show "La Academia USA", based in Mexico City (similar to the popular United States shows "American Idol" and "Big Brother"). Muenchow was among the top 12 contestants chosen out of over 10,000 people who auditioned. One year prior, he was a part of "Nuevas Voces de America", another reality-based talent show in Miami, Florida. World-famous music mogul Emilio Estefan hand picked 20 talented vocal performers from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Out of about 30,000 people who auditioned, Muenchow was selected, trained, and shown the ropes of the entertainment industry through the eyes of producers and stars alike.
Aside from reality shows, Muenchow has held lead roles in many musicals. He has been in such musicals as "The Sound of Music" (Gateway Playhouse), "Bye Bye Birdie", "Cinderella" (Rossini's Opera and Rogers & Hammerstein's), "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", and more. He has also been in productions of "Les Misérables", "The Exonerated", "Amadeus", "The Boys in the Band", and other theater productions.
You may have also seen Muenchow in commercials throughout Texas, and in the popular NBC television series "Friday Night Lights", where he was cast as featured talent for the entire 3rd season of the series, appearing as a football player for the Dillon Panthers.
On June 20, 2017, Broadway Sings for Pride held a Broadway-themed concert, as part of "NYC Pride: Family Movie Night", at Pier 45 (Hudson River Park), in New York City. Prior to the very special screening of the film "The Lion King" at dusk, family friendly selections related to New York and "The Lion King" were performed. Broadway Sings for Pride is a multiple award-winning, non-for-profit organization that brings together Broadway talent, activists, and celebrities, to educate the public, raise awareness of the needs of LGBTQ+ youth, and support these young people, so that they may reach their full potential.
Muenchow performed the song "Cheap Thrills" during the event, where Shefik served as Videographer. "Cheap Thrills" is a song by Australian singer and songwriter Sia from her 7th studio album, "This Is Acting" (2016). It was written by Sia and Greg Kurstin, and produced by Kurstin. It was originally released on December 17, 2015, and an official remix version of "Cheap Thrills" featuring Jamaican singer Sean Paul was made available for digital download on February 11, 2016 as the album's second single. This version was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
