Bebe Neuwirth: And the World Goes 'Round

Broadway Sings for Pride

Bebe Neuwirth is an American actress, singer, and dancer. On television, she played Dr. Lilith Sternin (Frasier Crane's wife), on both the television sitcom "Cheers" (in a starring role) and its spin-off "Frasier" (in a recurring guest role). The role won her two Emmy Awards. In 2005, Neuwirth was cast as Bureau Chief / Assistant District Attorney Tracey Kibre in the short-lived "Law & Order" courtroom drama series "Law & Order: Trial By Jury", on NBC. On stage, she played the Tony Award winning roles of Nickie in the revival of "Sweet Charity" (1986) and Velma Kelly in the revival of "Chicago" (1996). Other Broadway musical roles include Lola in the revival of "Damn Yankees" (1994) and Morticia Addams in "The Addams Family" (2010). From 2014 to 2017, she starred as Nadine Tolliver in the CBS political drama "Madam Secretary". In film, she portrayed Nora Shepherd in the original "Jumanji" (1995) and "Jumanji: The Next Level" (2019).

On June 20, 2016, Broadway Sings for Pride premiered its 6th anniversary benefit concert "Ovation" in New York City, at Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan. This milestone event was filled with singing (from pop to Broadway), stories, special celebrity guests, and more. The show honored Tyler Clementi Foundation and AIDS pioneer and activist Ruth Coker Burks. Broadway Sings for Pride is a multiple award-winning, non-for-profit organization that brings together Broadway talent, activists, and celebrities, to educate the public, raise awareness of the needs of LGBTQ+ youth, and support these young people, so that they may reach their full potential.

Neuwirth performed the song "And the World Goes 'Round" during the benefit concert, where Shefik served as Videographer. The song is from the Off-Broadway musical revue of the same name, which showcased the songs of John Kander and Fred Ebb. The revue, which opened on March 18, 1991 at the Westside Theatre, takes its title from a tune the songwriting team wrote for Liza Minnelli to sing in the film "New York, New York" (that song, however, is titled "But the World Goes 'Round").
